Taufik was born and raised in Damascus, Syria. At the age of 10, he started playing the Qanun and by the time he was 14 he became the youngest player in the ” Sham Heritage Ensemble “, a prestigious group that represents the traditional music scene in Syria and performs a wide range of vocal and instrumental material and forms such as the Andalusian muwashshah, dawr, qad, sama’i, longa, and bashraf.

He joined the conservatory of Damascus specializing in Qanun and graduated in 2007. During his tenure at the Institute, Taoufik was appointed as principal soloist at the “Arab Music Orchestra ” of Syria and essentially went on tour with the group to Europe, South America and the Arab World. Taoufik taught qanun at Sulhi al-Wadi Music Institute from 2005-2011. Among his activities was a leading role the “Music in Me” project and SOS Children Village which is a UNESCO sponsored program tailored to children in disadvantaged neighborhoods and refugee camps.

Trained under Elmira Akhundova, Goksel Babaktagir, and Halil Karaduman, his work on the instrument enabled him to perform all over the world as part of both Western and traditional ensembles such as France, Belgium, Switzerland , Germany , Turkey , Spain , Iran , Taiwan , Holland , Sweden , Brazil , Venezuela , Italy .. in addition to the Arab countries.

In 2007 he was invited to perform as a soloist with the Dutch known orchestra ” Nieuw Ensemble” for contemporary music , the concerts were held in : Opera Pastille in Paris, Grenoble Opera House in France, “Muziekgebouw”. He worked closely with prominent composers and musicians such as Abed Azerie , and Ziad Rahbani and founding leader of Souzdalar , Ateeq , Broukar Ensembles. Taufik is a frequent soloist with the Syrian Orchestra for Arab Music, Syrian Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphonic National Band, al-Farabi Ensemble, Tarab Ensemble, Abu Khalil al-Qabbani Ensemble, and al-Kaseed Ensemble. He is well-recorded, and is currently is the principal Qanun teacher at the Qatar Music Academy in Doha. Videolinks in Youtube.
